Junior Football League
Our Seniors headed to Scotstown on Sunday for the final game in this group of the League. With nothing really in it for either team it was to be a lacklustre outing. The Seans were spritely in their approach to the first half and were in control to the break where they lead by five points. However a nasty head injury to Goalkeeper, Ryan Connolly, dominated the attention for the closing minutes of the period. Thankfully Ryan was fine however it did require a hospital visit to make sure. The second half failed to ignite any spark, with both teams not converting changes and turning over play. A short flurry of scores from Scotstown lessened the score board but not the result. The Seans were victors by ten points to six. Job done but all the attention will turn to the Championship in two weeks.
Juveniles
It was an old firm derby on Thursday last as Aghabog and the Seans squared up for their semi final of the league. Having played out a tantalising draw in the earlier round it once again did not fail to keep the supporters rooted to spot for the duration. To say it was game of two halves wouldn’t be understating the windy conditions that they had to contend with. The Seans made good with their wind advantage in the first half and took their chances well to have an eleven point cushion going to the break. However Aghabog now had the benefit of the weather and started to dig out their scores to narrow the margin. Our young cubs played out of their skins at times and tackled like tigers but the visitors gave as good as they got. In a nervous fourth quarter the Seans curtailed the onslaught and managed a couple of key scores to secure a win and a place in the final by four points. It’s a great achievement for the team and a final against Aughnamullen awaits them on Saturday at 2pm in Drumhowan. Aughnamullen are unbeaten all year and have already served us with the very bitter taste of defeat back in June. Certainly, it will be the David and Goliath show for this finale, but the lads have been immense all year and we commend them for that, and they will hopefully enjoy their day in the sun on Saturday.
