Junior Championship Rd.3
The seniors hosted our neighbours, Killeevan, on Saturday evening last for round three of the championship. Always a tight affair , this encounter would be no different. On the back of two wins, the Seans on paper at least, would have been favorites but boy were their socks nearly rocked off. Killeevan grabbed the game by the neck and within ten minutes they had a goal and four points registered on the board. This shook the lads to their foundations and with even more gusto they dug deep and began shooting points from all angles until they levelled the score. As the half time whistle approached a few more points were exchanged but it was all square as they refueled at the break. The second half was another torrid affair with little quarter given by either team. The Seans edged ahead by the slimiest of margins but Killeevan were not beaten. As the twenty fifth minute ticked over the visitors rattled the net for a second time which left for nervous finish but the Seans held their heads for victory number three. A big thanks to our match day sponsors who were Brendan McMahon, Local Bread Agent and Stranooden Group Water Scheme. We cannot thank these companies and individuals enough for their continued support.
Juveniles
The U17’s hosted Rock Sarsfields on Friday night last. This was a top versus bottom encounter but nobody told the Seans that. They played like tigers , battling for every ball and score. This was a much improved performance on their previous games. However lady luck evaded us in the end and the visitors sneaked a goal to kill the game by one point. The disappointment shown by the lads has surely moved them to the next level where they have the confidence to win. No victory on the night but it spoke volumes of their hard work and enthusiasm to date.
Our U15’s had Tyholland at home on Thursday evening last. This was to be another hard slog and struggle for the lads. They battled hard and improved their scoring chances but all to no avail. Tyholland proved quicker and sharper on the night as they kicked some very commendable scores. We , however, tried hard but had little or no reward on the night. While the league table shows the stats it belies the effort that these players put in each week. They are to be complimented on their perseverance and hopefully they will get their victories soon.
The U13 lads took the long trek to Inniskeen on Friday night for their third game of the championship. Inniskeen were sitting high and dry on top of the table having put away some strong victories in recent weeks. In a very tight game , where the Seans sustained a torrential shower of scores in the early stages, our lads clawed their way back to stay in touch by a couple of scores at half time. The home team were strong on the ball and didn’t give it away cheaply. While we stayed the pace for most of the second half, Inniskeen finished strongly and won well in the end. This was a battle which will hopefully be revisited at the business end of the competition.
Treasure Hunt
With strange cars moving slowly up and down the parish, excited scribbling, and the odd argument it could only be the annual treasure hunt. A huge turnout out of eager trackers looking for damaged fences, missing balls and homemade bird feeders made for a wonderful evenings entertainment. The clues took them from Threemilehouse to the far end of Corcaghan and back again. Well done to all who took part and congratulations to the winner , Linda McGrory and her crew. In a close call the runners up were Seamus and Pauline Mc Caffery and Aoife Clerkin and the Grant Girls. A big thanks to all who organised the event and made it a success.
